ABOUTME

Visibility, Advocacy, and the Conversations That Matter

I never set out to become a transgender advocate; I simply wanted to live my life. But visibility has a way of inviting conversations, and those conversations have shown me just how much misinformation, misunderstanding, and fear surround transgender people.

I’ve experienced extraordinary kindness and support. I’ve also encountered hostility, harassment, and people who feel remarkably comfortable making assumptions about someone they’ve never met. Rather than retreat entirely from those conversations, I’ve chosen to engage with them.

My advocacy centers on a relatively simple idea:

Understanding begins when we stop treating people as arguments and start recognizing them as human beings.

I believe in the importance of transgender visibility, equal dignity, personal autonomy, and the freedom to live without discrimination. I also believe that meaningful conversations require intellectual honesty, compassion, and the willingness to listen—even when we disagree. That doesn’t mean every opinion deserves agreement or that cruelty should be tolerated in the name of civility.

It means recognizing that disagreement doesn’t require dehumanization.

Through writing, personal reflections, and public conversations, I hope to challenge misconceptions about transgender people while encouraging others to examine the assumptions that influence their understanding of gender, identity, and the human experience. I am particularly mindful of younger transgender people who may be watching these exchanges while struggling to understand their own identities. If my visibility helps even one person feel less isolated, less ashamed, or more hopeful about their future, then the vulnerability of sharing my experiences has served a purpose.

I don’t need everyone to agree with me. But I do believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.
